MX Team Honda Racing clinched two New Zealand Motocross titles at the final round of the 2009 Demon Energy NZ Motocross Championships last Sunday in New Plymouth.
The Taranaki track is known for toppling leaders at the last round, the last three seasons have shown that. So on proven 2009 model CRFs Team Honda achieved greatness in the rain this weekend to leave with the two crowns; they were so close to on arriving at the well groomed but muddy track.
In the MX 1 class, Christchurch’s Justin McDonald (Honda CRF450) continued his consistency with a further three seconds behind a hard charging Cody Cooper, taking the Championship by just two points
“It has been a hard series but consistency paid off,” said McDonald after racing
In the MX 2 class Mount Maunganui’s Peter Broxholme took his 2009 Honda CRF250R, to the over all win for the day, while teammate Rotorua’s Michael Phillips, came home runner up, clinching Honda’s second title of the day.
Both trophies are also attributable to Team Manager and Mentor Shayne King and the Honda Motorcycles NZ team, who’ve helped the riders, finish with typical Honda precision engineering and planning.
We are extremely proud of the Team’s efforts” said Blue Wing Honda General Manager Phill Haynes
“Team Honda did extremely well in the conditions and it was fantastic to win both classes after last year’s disappointment, “said Team Manager Shayne King.
“It was not the foregone conclusion the stats might have lead some to believe, the teamwork and preparation really needed to count today – and it did. A short season at four venues this year meant a DNF in any Moto can have disastrous effect for anyone’s lead, so the Honda CRFs also had to perform well and stay on the podiums – which they again also did.
We are extremely proud of the Team’s efforts” said Blue Wing Honda General Manager Phill Haynes
