Terertonga Park
Teretonga hosts the annual Evolution Motorsport Classic SpeedFest this weekend.
SpeedFest is an event that brings a stunning array of classic racing machinery to the fast, open Teretonga Park circuit and Southlanders will be able to enjoy superb racing on the track as well as getting up close for a look at the vehicles in the pits.
Impressive fields have been assembled with a large entry list in both the Ray White Real Estate Classic Saloons and Southland Times Racing Car classes. The saloons feature an exciting line up of marques with Canadian visitor Jack Ondrack leading the way in his rapid TVR Tuscan. Ondrack, a regular visitor to this event, will also compete in the Sports Car class in the car. Other entries in the Classic Saloons include Brendan Mason’s sensational Chev Camaro plus Minis, Torana XU1s, Porsches and Jaguars.
The racing car events feature a huge number of different marques, predominantly FF2000s and Formula Fords. Bound to attract plenty of interest are the Southland built Beggs of Noel Atley and Walter Willmott.
A real mix of Sports Cars will assemble in the Turntru Machining supported class with Lotus Elans, an E-Type Jaguar and a Chevron just an example of the machinery on the grid.
The Allied Petroleum Vintage Car class also features iconic brands such as Jaguar, Austin Healey and Alfa Romeo while for the younger fans the Jesco Hydraulics Historic Touring cars will cater for more recent machinery seen in various touring car championships from around the world.
Add in the Kumho Tyres Pre 65 Saloons led by grunty machines such as Gareth Hall’s Chevrolet Nova SS, Wayne Tuffley and Greg Stewart of Southland in their Ford Mustangs plus several other big V8s and Otautau driver Stuart Mitchell in his Anglia and you have a real spectacle.
Also on track will be the Mini 7 South series supported by R&D Motorsport and Hanmer Refuse Services plus the Noel McIntyre Drainage Clubmans Series.
International entries at this stage come from Ondrack along with his countryman, another past visitor, Jay Esterer, who is bringing a 1984 Van Diemen. From Australia comes Barry Wise with his Dulon MP21 Formula Ford while Frank Yates of the UK will drive a Reynard FF2000 84F single seater.
The weekend features two full days of on-track action and the cars are able to be seen close-up in the pits throughout the weekend.
Discounted tickets are on sale prior to the meeting from Auto Centre in Tweed Street, Invercargill. These pre-purchased tickets cost of just $15 while tickets purchased at the gate during the weekend will cost $20 each. Children under 15 are free.
The action starts at 10.00am each day.
